Construction Employment Declines by 11,000 from June to July

The unemployment rate for construction workers dipped to 17.3 percent, however, reflecting fewer Americans seeking construction jobs. The rate had been 20.1 percent in May and June.

Construction employment decreased by 11,000 positions between June and July, Associated General Contractors of America said in a statement.

Overall, the nation's economy continued to sputter in July, losing 131,000 jobs (many of them were temporary workers who had been hired to help with the U.S. Census). The unemployment rate held steady at 9.5 percent.
