A new report from the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) has ranked the 50 states (and the District of Columbia) according to changing levels of construction employment through May 2012. The unemployment rate for the industry fell in June to 12.8 percent from 14.2 percent in May, though analysts say that drop is largely because of workers leaving the industry. There is a growing concern that as the construction industry picks up steam, builders will face a shortage of skilled labor. The following are the ten best states, and the ten worst, according to their gains or losses in construction employment in the last 12 months:
