Construction at $802.3 Billion Annual Rate




Highway construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $87 billion, 1.2 percent (plus or minus 5.0%)* above the revised September estimate of $86 billion.

Construction spending during October was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $802.3 billion, 0.7 percent above the revised September estimate of $797.1 billion. The October figure is 9.3 percent below the October 2009 estimate of $884.7 billion.

In October, the estimated seasonally adjusted annual rate of public construction spending was $320.5 billion, 0.4 percent above the revised September estimate of $319.2 billion. Educational construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $75 billion, 1.7 percent below the revised September estimate of $76.3 billion.

The value of public construction put in place from October 2009 to October of this year increased from $28.652 billion to $29.061 billion, not seasonally adjusted, or an increase of 1.4 percent. Many sectors saw increases in the past 12 months, such as health care, transportation, amusement and recreation. But the sector that saw the biggest increase was power, which increased from $866 million to $1.329 billion, or 53.5 percent.
