Senator Chafee's Conservation Legacy

Ducks Unlimited urges Congress to honor him

MEMPHIS, TN

Officials from Ducks Unlimited, the world's largest wetlands and wildlife conservation group, is mourning the passing of Rhode Island Senator, John Chafee, and has called upon Congress to recognize Chafee's contributions to a healthy environment.

"We at Ducks Unlimited are saddened to learn about the passing of Senator John Chafee," said Don Young, executive vice president. "Senator Chafee was a premier national advocate of wildlife and conservation. Ducks Unlimited will always be grateful for his consistent leadership on behalf of the North American Wetlands Conservation Act, which helped pioneer the concept of non-profit group financial matches for conservation habitat projects. We would encourage Congress to name a federal facility, possible a national wildlife refuge, to appropriately honor Senator Chafee's conservation legacy."

Since its inception in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has raised more than $1.2 billion to conserve nearly 9 million acres of wetlands and other critical wildlife habitat throughout North America.
