The Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies applauded the bipartisan U.S. Congressional support for the State & Tribal Wildlife Grants (STWG) program, highlighting its critical role in conserving over 12,000 species at risk. Since the program's creation in 2000, over $1 billion has been allocated to fund conservation efforts like invasive species control, habitat restoration, and research. Despite recent funding cuts, the program has prevented numerous species from becoming endangered while supporting a $454 billion outdoor recreation economy. Leaders stress the importance of sustained funding to combat climate-related threats, protect ecosystems, and empower local conservation efforts, ensuring long-term biodiversity and economic benefits through science-driven, locally led partnerships.
