Connecticut ASLA Chapter

The 2017 Professional Design Award winners were announced at CTASLA's Annual Holiday Party on December 7, 2016. Barbara Yaeger awarded the Olmsted Award to Cary Chadwick and Chester Arnold of UCONN CLEAR.

The State of Connecticut's Department of Administrative Services (DAS) created its first position of Landscape Architect On-Call this year, recognizing the collaborative value that landscape architects bring to a project team. The role of CTASLA's Advocacy Committee includes meeting with the public sector to explain the role and wide breadth of services offered by landscape architects.

Peter Viteretto, of Heritage Landscapes addresses the tour at Old North Cemetery, burial site of Frederick Law Olmsted, during the April program, Olmsted Parks in Transition.

The Connecticut ASLA Chapter provided a variety of educational programs in 2017 for members and allied professionals. They offered programs on roofing, hardscape solutions, planting, and sustainability.

Bob Golde, of Towers Golde led a tour of Phoenix Plaza during the October program, "Designing Green Roofs and Plazas."

CTASLA's Emerging Professional Committee gathered momentum by partnering with local organizations for events including bowling and a beach cleanup. The committee also hosted prep classes for the Landscape Architect Registration Examination.

Connecticut's emerging professionals enjoyed a scheduled activity at Adventure Park in Bridgeport.

Two 2,500-dollar scholarships were awarded to students through the Karen Ann Shopis-Fox Memorial Scholarship, named after the dedicated Connecticut landscape architect who passed away in 2011.
