CLARB Announces New Board of Directors for 2024-25

Association Introduces Five New Leaders

CLARB introduces its 2024-25 Board of Directors, led by President Joel Kurokawa, to strengthen global connections in landscape architecture.

The Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB) has announced its Board of Directors for 2024-25, bringing together a diverse group of leaders committed to advancing the regulation of landscape architecture and ensuring public protection. Joel Kurokawa, PLA, ASLA, CLARB, founder and principal of Ki Concepts in Honolulu, Hawaii, will serve as president during the 2024-2025 term. Kurokawa has a distinguished career spanning private and public projects as well as higher education.

"Joel's focus on building connections will strengthen CLARB's work to ensure that the world's people, places, and environment are protected by landscape architecture," said CLARB CEO Matt Miller. "His thoughtful perspective and leadership style align perfectly with our mission to advance the profession while protecting public welfare."

Additionally, Brian Verardo, PLA, ASLA, LEED AP, was elected as president-elect. Verardo is the principal Landscape Architect and managing partner at Pland Collaborative in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Lea Ann Macknally, PLA will complete her three-year leadership term as past president and chair of the Leadership Advisory Council.

CLARB also welcomed new directors-at-large, including Leehu Loon, PLA, ASLA professor and chair at Texas Tech University, and Amy Stewart, chief of legal services for Rhode Island's Department of Business Regulation, marking the first time an attorney has joined the board.
