Chip Crawford, FASLA, PLA, received the 2026 Legacy Award from the Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) during the organization's Gala Dinner on September 16 in Los Angeles, California. Established in 2023, the award honors former board members whose exceptional service has helped shape LAF and its legacy.

 
Crawford served on LAF's board from 2004 to 2014, including as president in 2010, guiding the organization through a significant period of growth and change. During his tenure, he supported the development of the LAF Olmsted Scholars Program, helped modernize communications, and championed the Landscape Performance Series, which demonstrates the environmental, social, and economic benefits of landscape projects.

His advocacy for involving students in landscape research also helped inspire LAF's Case Study Investigation program, launched in 2011, which engages students and faculty in evaluating built projects.

"Chip has a unique ability to inspire creative and visionary thinking and bring people together around ideas that lead to meaningful, lasting outcomes," said Barbara Deutsch, LAF's CEO.

Crawford continues to support the profession as a Board Emeritus member, mentoring Olmsted Scholars and championing innovative approaches to landscape architecture. His leadership has helped strengthen LAF's programs and advance the profession's impact on design and development.
