Chelsea "Best Show Garden"

The annual Chelsea Flower Show of the U.K.'s Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) awarded the garden design of Swedish landscape architect Ulf Nordfjell "Best Show Garden."

The U.K.'s Royal Horticultural Society judged Swedish landscape architect Ulf Nordfjell's design the "Best Show Garden" for use of water, transparency, color, strong structural planting and combining architecture with garden design.

The RHS judged Mr. Nordfjell's garden a "fusion of modern, relaxed Swedish style with traditional English elements, demonstrating how to combine architecture with garden design."

The modern elements are granite, steel, glass and timber overlooking a stylized creek. The traditional English elements are green walls and hedges that enclose the garden's open spaces for privacy. A granite terrace divides the garden into a sunny, asymmetrical area on one side and a more formal, partly shady area on the other.

RHS noted the use of water, transparency, color, and strong structural planting, notably the multi-stemmed Pinus sylvestris ???Watereri' at the front of the space, gave the garden a subtle, striking and unique character.
