A cemetery in Middletown, N.Y. recently banned visitors from placing decorative items around graves that interrupt maintenance of the grounds.

At St. Joseph?EUR??,,????'???s cemetery in Middletown, N.Y., grounds keepers have removed decorative items left by family members in order to avoid interference in their daily maintenance routines.

The cemetery says that for months, they attempted to contact people through bulletins, letters, announcements and signs on the grounds to notify them of the new policy.

However, some visitors to the cemetery were upset by the new policy when they discovered items like photos, statues and banners left in a pile to be retrieved by their owners.

Belen Medina?EUR??,,????'???s husband is buried in the cemetery and was upset to discover that the plaques, banners, flowers and statues she had placed around the headstone had been removed.

?EUR??,,????'??What I was really upset about was that they just took the stuff and trashed it,?EUR??,,????'?? said Medina. ?EUR??,,????'??It?EUR??,,????'???s just an empty feeling, and a loss again.?EUR??,,????'??

?EUR??,,????'??I know some people are angry, said Monsignor George Valastro. ?EUR??,,????'??People have called me. It hurts me, it really does. But I just feel that for the beauty of the cemetery, for the safety of the workers and the common good, we can?EUR??,,????'???t make exceptions.?EUR??,,????'??
