Carrier Park

DeWitt, NY
by Appel Osborne Landscape Architecture

The Parks Issue of Landscape Architect & Specifier News saw many firms submit their projects for feature consideration. This project was not chosen for a Feature in the issue, but we at LandscapeArchitect.com thought the project deserved to be showcased online . . .

The Challenger Field of Dreams at Carrier Park in DeWitt, NY is home to the largest Little League Challenger Division in the world, with nearly 250 junior, senior, and adult players. It has been Appel Osborne's pleasure and privilege to design this community park and create an accessible, inclusive space for Challenger athletes, their families, and community members to enjoy.

Project phases 1 and 2 included two ADA, championship-level baseball/softball fields with synthetic turf infields, ADA-accessible basketball courts, and an all-inclusive playground.

This past summer, the community celebrated the groundbreaking of the Phase 3 Superfield, which will include eight fully accessible baseball fields, a state-of-the-art video streaming scoreboard, and a flex field for football, lacrosse, soccer, and more. One of the objectives of this field design is to accommodate all Challenger athletes simultaneously and deepen the connection between the project's supporters and the experience of the players.
