Cara Legislation Passes House

Overwhelming majority vote in favor

Washington, D.C.

On May 11th, the U.S. House of Representatives answered the call of thousands of conservationists and recreationists with the successful passage of H.R. 701, "The Conservation and Reinvestment Act" (CARA).

The bill passed on a vote of 315-103, without any crippling amendments, and with improvements, including the Boehlert amendment providing increased protections against incentives for new offshore drilling. Representatives Don Young (R-AK) and George Miller (D-CA) were at the forefront of this legislative effort. Next, the bill is scheduled to move to the Senate for consideration.
