Aug. 13?EUR??,,????'??+The Pasadena City Council in Texas has relaxed their decision that car dealerships can help make the city look more livable. After opposition to regulations made about two years ago calling for landscaping around the car lots, the city council voted 6 to 3 to relax the rules. According to the Pasadena News, many car dealers have designated this vote a step in the right direction. Relaxed Pasadena regulations call for new and recently-sold car dealerships to install one foot of landscaping around their perimeters instead of three feet, and making drive isles 24 feet instead of 16 feet . The ordinance also prohibits dealerships from being within 150 feet of residential areas, and 1,000 feet of each other, and dealerships cannot exhibit decorative flags to bring in customers. A grandfather clause excuses pre-existing car lots from having to abide by the regulations; otherwise, landscaping drafts are due by November 1, 2003. A lot of car dealers have postponed landscaping their dealership because of the costs. Some dealers have guessed that they will have to spend up to $20,000 to adhere to the ordinance, and many car dealers are dissatisfied with the new requirements because their lots, which act as display areas for their cars, may be blocked from view by the landscaping. Although many dealers are happy with the relaxing of the rules, they say that more needs to be done to remedy the situation, reported the Pasadena News. Of 70 dealerships in Pasadena, 41 signed onto a lawsuit by the Vehicle Dealers?EUR??,,????'??? Association to battle the original restrictions. The city council recently cancelled an executive session meeting to consider settling on the suit.
