Volunteers help Nature Conservancy

LAKE SUCCESS, NY

As part of the inaugural nationwide Canon Conservation Day, the Canon Clean Earth Crew from Canon U.S.A. Inc.'s headquarters in Lake Success, recently volunteered their time by putting their hands to work at Uplands Farm Sanctuary, located in Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island. The members of the crew removed invasive non-native shrubs, vines, and trees from the preserve's hedgerow and fields, along with restoring a historic barn.

The Canon Clean Earth Crew assisted The Nature Conservancy staff in improving the habitat for grassland birds, such as the bobolink, and thinning the hedgerows to control invasive plants, such as the Norway maple at the 60 acres sanctuary. The open fields and woodlands of Uplands Farm Sanctuary are a habitat for birds, wildflowers and more than 40 species of butterflies. It is also the headquarters of the Long Island Chapter of The Nature Conservancy.

Paul Rabinovitch, Executive Director, Long Island Chapter of The Nature Conservancy said, "We are pleased to be a part of the company's first national Conversation Day."
