SACRAMENTO, Calif. ?EUR??,,????'??? The Yosemite Chapter of the California Association of Nurseryment (CAN) was recently named the recipient of the 2002 Ron Regan Education and Career Award. The award is given to the individual or group who most closely carries out the CAN?EUR??,,????'???s Education and Career mission statement ?EUR??,,????'??To develop ways and implement means to educate students about the importance of plants and attract individuals into the field of horticulture as a career.?EUR??,,????'?? The award was developed to pay tribute to the individual or group whose long-range thinking is to inspire students to become horticultural leaders within their communities. The Yosemite Chapter provides five chapter meetings that are educational in nature, can be used to apply for California Certified Nursery Professional continuing education units and have content that is useful to students. Throughout the year they hold numerous nursery tours, grower forums, pest management presentations, provide software information, UC research reports, propagation information, marketing/merchandising techniques, new technology and more. Chapter members have also been involved in county career fairs representing themselves and CAN, and the chapter has helped organize and staff a student orientation area at the Nor Cal Spring Trade show.
