School district pitches in

Sacramento, CA

The non-profit organization called TreePeople is working with local schools to plant trees throughout the Los Angeles region. The L.A. Unified School District has recently joined forces with the group by initiating a plan to replace 30 percent of asphalt at its 400 schools with various trees and permeable surfaces. The total space involved will be approximately 20 million square feet. In order to help the community develop a sense of ownership, TreePeople is also recruiting neighborhood residents to build support for the planting and maintenance of the new trees.
