The recommendations of the California Assembly Bill 2717 Task Force are being put into motion. Carrying out the legislative mandate established in AB2717, the task force last year conducted an extensive review of water use in landscapes and submitted a report to the governor with 43 major recommendations, including 16 specifically related to irrigation. State Rep. John Laird introduced AB1881, which in its current form would carry out some of the task force recommendations. The bill, which is expected to become more comprehensive as it moves through the process, was approved in the Assembly on May 30, sent to the state Senate and assigned to the Rules Committee. Meanwhile, members of the task force and other stakeholders are holding regular meetings to update the model landscape ordinance as recommended in the task force report.
