Calif. Assesses Wildfire Damage

SUSANVILLE, Calif. - The Susanville Interagency Fire Center in California announced the statistics for this past summer's wildfires. In all, 81,012 acres burned in northeastern Calif. and extreme northwestern Nevada.

The fire season included 440 fires on lands protected by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, and public lands managed by the Lassen National Forest and the Bureau of Land Management. Of the fires, 254 fires were ignited by lightning strikes, while the remaining 186 fires were started by humans. No homes were lost and no firefighters were seriously injured.

This year’s fire totals jumped well above last year’s total of 28,783 acres.
