Many people can relate their first driving experience to a thrill ride in bumper-to-bumper traffic. When the annual fair is held or the circus comes to town, kids all over America have traditionally lined up to drive the bumper cars. But for obvious reasons, when adults face the prospect of locking bumpers on the interstate or at a four-way stop, the prospect does not hold the same attraction--accelerated heart beat, maybe . . . but no thrills.
In the interest of helping professionals design safety and enjoyment back into driving, the University of California Berkeley Transportation Center has developed an instructional video on traffic calming techniques for professional transportation planners called Good Streets for Good Cities. The video is free to professionals. To obtain your free copy, contact Lucy Yamamoto at (510) 643-5454 or write UC Transportation Center, 108 Naval Architecture Bldg. UC Berkeley, CA 94720.
