The Northeast fared the best with an overall increase of 27.6 percent, while the West had the best increase in one units at 69.2 percent.


Privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits in January were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 621,000. This is 4.9 percent (???????(R)???????+???????(R)??????oe???????(R)???????+???????(R)????????2.2%) below the revised December rate of 653,000, but is 16.9 percent (???????(R)???????+???????(R)??????oe???????(R)???????+???????(R)????????4.0%) above the January 2009 estimate of 531,000.

Single-family authorizations in January were at a rate of 507,000; this is 0.4 percent above the revised December figure of 505,000. Authorizations of units in building with five units or more were at a rate of 96,000 in January.

For new privately-owned housing units authorized in permit issuing places from January 2009 to January 2010, the national total went up 16.9 percent, seasonally adjusted. One unit structures were up 48.2 percent, with 2 to 4 units down 10 percent and 5 or more units down 43.2 percent. ?EUR??,,????'?????<
