From homeowners to businesses, conserving water flows through the minds of many North Carolinians these days. Even government buildings are getting in on the act.
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission headquarters in Raleigh features elements designed to save big on energy while doing little to hurt the environment. The landscaping uses drought-resistant, native plants and trees, and mulch helps reduce evaporation and keeps soil moist. The building has received widespread recognition and awards for incorporating sustainable features that cause minimal environmental impacts.
When you step inside, you can see how controlled-flow devices help. You’ll never believe the water bill for this five-story building. These water saving efforts can be done in our homes, too.
“Our water bill for this building is approximately $120 a month; that’s with 190 full-time employees and many visitors per day,?EUR??,,????'?? said facilities mechanical engineer Kevin Ball. ?EUR??,,????'??So we think we’re on par for being a typical water user like a house here in Raleigh and we’re pretty proud of the fact that we have a good story going here.”
