Rundown commercial areas would get a boost from a tax credit bill introduced early this year by Senators Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX) and Phil English (R-PA). the measure, H.R. 465, would give builders tax credits for new construction or rehabilitation in distressed areas. an earlier version of the bill drew bipartisan support in the last Congress.
The American Planning Association is working for passage of the measure in cooperation with the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the International Downtown Association, the National Association of Counties, the American Institute of Architects, and the American Society of Landscape Architects.
