LIGHTFAIR, an annual architectural and commercial lighting trade show and conference, prepares to visit the Big Apple next month for its 26th annual show.

LIGHTFAIR or LFI is an annual international architectural and commercial lighting trade show and conference that is sponsored by the International Association of Lighting Designers and the Illuminating Engineering Society. Last year's 25th anniversary show in Las Vegas was a huge success, beating out all other previous years.

The 2014 trade show floor covered a record 239,800 square feet and spotlighted 576 exhibitors, including 107 first-time exhibiting companies and 103 manufacturers headquartered outside the U.S. Attendance broke all previous records with 26,059 professional attendees registered. The LFI 2014 attendee population included representatives from 74 countries.

This year's show will be held at the Javits Center in New York, N.Y., the Pre-conference dates are May 3 – 4, while the Trade Show & Conference dates are May 5 – 7.

New This Year
2105 initiatives:
• Expanded trade show floor with new exhibitors across multiple categories
• Expansion of categories including: alternative energy including solar power, software, exterior and roadway, digital signage, healthcare and hospitality
• New focus for the Conference on Integrated Design with four focus areas/tracks: Inspiration, Applications Research, Technology & Tools and Methodology

Education
The Pre-Conference LIGHTFAIR Institute and LIGHTFAIR Conference five-day program features 78 course offerings and more than 130 speakers. The 2015 program includes 11 Institute courses, 15 Institute workshops, 29 seminars, two Conference workshops, five Forum seminars, 12 60-minute sessions, two 30-minute Power Lunches and two Lunch & Learn seminars – totaling more than 210 hours with accreditation.

Some of the seminar offerings include: Outdoor Lighting Control Systems Fundamentals, Advanced LED Luminaire Design, 3D Projection Mapping for Lighting Designers, Rebates Revolutionized: The Future of Lighting Energy Efficiency Programs, and Lighting for Human and Other Animal Welfare. Keynote & Impact Speakers
May 4 • 12:15 p.m.
Keynote Luncheon: Chuck Hoberman, President & Founder of HOBERMAN Associates, Transformable Design, Inventor Chuck Hoberman will speak about his pioneering work in Transformable Design with projects that range from public art to kinetic facades to dynamic sets for live entertainment.

May 5 • 3 p.m.
Impact Interview – Legends of Lighting: Howard Brandston, FIES, Hon. FCIBSE & Hon. FSLL, FIALD, LC in conversation with Chip Israel, FIALD, MIES, LEED AP, LC. Lighting legend Howard Brandston will be interviewed by Chip Israel for an engaging conversation on Howard's work and past projects.

May 6 • 3 p.m.
Impact Speaker: Mark Rea, PhD, FIES, Monetizing the Benefits of Lighting, Great strides have been made to reduce the cost of lighting for general illumination; however, little progress has been made to increase the benefits that lighting provides to society.

Events & Networking
Presenters for this year's event include Shuji Nakamura, Ph.D., who is a 2014 Nobel Prize Winner in Physics. He will present – The History of LED Technology to the Nobel Prize to Today's GaN, during the Pre-Conference Institute Keynote Luncheon on May 3 at 12:15 p.m.

LFI Innovation Awards will highlight the industry's most innovative products and designs introduced during the last 12 months. The awards ceremony will take place on May 5 beginning at 8:30 a.m.

On May 6, attendees will join Barbara Horton, FIALD (2015 IALD President) and Paul Mercier, MS, LC, IALD, IES (2015 IES President) for networking and coffee at "Rise and Shine with Design." Event will be held at 10:15 a.m.
