Breakwater, Duck Key, Florida

Submission by D'Asign Source
by Staff

This spacious, coastal modern home celebrates the Florida Keys flavor with an open floor plan and livable spaces replete with natural materials, textural finishes and luxurious performance fabrics. A 4-bedroom, 5.5-bath custom design + build by D'Asign Source, Breakwater was designed to be elegant but livable so the couple's extended family could visit comfortably and feel at home.
The couple's desire for indoor/outdoor living can most clearly be seen in the expansive loggia off the back of the home. This exterior covered space can transition from day to evening with automated shade screens, providing both sun and no-see-um protection. As well as offers automated hurricane shutters in case of a storm, preventing the need to bring in outdoor furniture.

Toward the water lies an infinity pool with spillover vanishing edge that runs parallel with the ocean. An inset spa is shaded by a red Tuuci cantilever umbrella, ledge loungers line the sun shelf, while a swim-up bar offers another gathering point. On the corner of the property a waterfront cabana provides another opportunity for alfresco dining.
A custom 16' glass mosaic compass rose medallion, by Mosaicist, anchors the herringbone patterned Old Chicago Brick driveway. While the tropical landscape incorporates native plantings, specimen Palms and stretches of lawn. All of this stunningly illuminated with outdoor lighting by Coastal Source, including over 185 niche lights.
