Brazil Will Host International Federation of Landscape Architects World Congress

Just in case you need an excuse to go to Rio, other than for Carnival, the Brazilian Association of Landscape Architects (ABAP) is hosting the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) 46th World Congress at the Hotel Sofitel of Rio de Janeiro, October 21-23, 2009.

“Green Infrastructure: High Performance Landscapes” is the theme for this worldwide congress of landscape architects. “Green” will drive the debates and presentations by representatives from all over the world.

Besides eight main lectures by outstanding professionals, more than 76 written works—submitted to and approved by the Organizing Committee—will be presented. This exchange of information is sure to be varied.

Registration for the congress will be on-line at www.46ifla2009.com.br.

The meeting will include visits to various Rio parks that offer diverse Brazilian species, such as the Jardim Botânico , Floresta da Tijuca , Sítio Burle Marx , Parque Península and Aterro do Flamengo, among others. Landscape architects will be your guides for every site.

Another milestone of the 46th IFLA World Congress will be, as every year, The International Student Design Competition will be part of the congress, offering a series of activities and workshops.

Finally, the congress will be the venue for the second IFLA Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Gold Medal award presentation. The Gold Medal is awarded every four years by the IFLA to pay tribute a practicing landscape architect whose merit, talent and actions are acknowledged at the international level.
