The Landscape Design Council (LDC) of Massachusetts presented three awards at the 2014 Boston Flower & Garden Show at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston on March 11, the opening day of the show.

The LDC's "Emily Seaber Parcher" award is given for excellence in landscape design of a naturalistic garden of less than 1,000 square feet. "Garden on the Charles," the winning exhibit by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, was inspired by two love stories that took place on the organization's property, Elm Bank. The exhibit features a winding stream with naturalistic plantings, complete with wooden canoe, footbridge and artist's retreat.

Landscape Design Award I, bestowed by the LDC for excellence in landscape design of a professional garden exhibit, was presented to the 2014 Newport Flower Show, "Journey: Grand Vistas," for its meticulous recreation of a miniature Newport-inspired landscape, complete with a railway that journeys past formal gardens and vistas to end up at a replica of Rosecliff mansion.

Landscape Design Award II, given to a show exhibitor for the effective use of garden ornaments, water features, specimen trees, or topiary in creating good design, was awarded to Interiors by M.S. The exhibit featured an airy interior space flowing into a harmoniously furnished garden with recycled and repurposed items. One notable feature were tables with halved, hollow tree trunks as bases, topped with glass to provide a functional surface that didn't mask the wood beneath.

The Massachusetts Horticultural Society was founded in 1829. The Landscape Design Council of Massachusetts was organized in 1963.
