BOBSod?(R) Makes it to World Series

PALM DESERT, Calif.-The Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Yankees played the 2001 World Series on a modern-day agronomic miracle courtesy of the latest in stadium design, a dedicated field maintenance crew and sod provided by West Coast Turf. Known as BOBSod, the sod is a combination of Bull's-Eye Bermuda and Chaparral Perennial Ryegrass that flourishes at Bank One Ballpark despite only getting a fraction of the sunlight under the retractable-dome stadium.

The Diamondbacks were the first major league baseball team to feature natural grass in a retractable-dome stadium even though most games at Bank One Ballpark are played with the roof closed, creating comfort for the fans and los of shade for the field.

"No other stadium dared to subject natural grass to the shady conditions of a roof," said Diamondback's Head Groundskeeper, Grant Trenbeath. "BOBSod has performed for us like a champ."
