Blair Parker Design

Memphis, Tennessee

Founded in 2009, Blair Parker Design (BPD) is a landscape architectural design firm whose creative designs are also buildable solutions for each of our projects. We believe projects of all shapes and sizes deserve well-designed, meaningful spaces and our project portfolio reflects that mindset. BPD's team of 6, including 2 PLAs, features expertise in master planning, site design, recreation design, LID design and planting design while leading projects through public approval processes.

Tennessee Brewery, Memphis, TN:
BPD provided landscape architectural design services as part of a larger design team for the adaptive reuse of the Tennessee Brewery. The historic Brewery building houses 43 residential units and office space. It is part of a four phase development including the Bottle Shop, a combination of units, restaurant, and parking structure, the Wash House, an 87 unit residential building with a second internal courtyard and the Tap Room, a 130 unit residential space and third amenity courtyard.

BPD created a pedestrian-oriented streetscape design taking inspiration from the original Brewery building's scale and materials. That streetscape design integrates new and old construction into the Brewery District. All three courtyards provide amenities to each user group and the design styles reflect the corresponding structure. The Brewery adaptive reuse portion of the project recently won "Best Renovation (over $10 million)" and "Project of the Year" in the Memphis Business Journal's Building Memphis 2019 awards

VA Hospital Entrance Renovation, Memphis, TN
Above: The VA hospital underwent entrance renovations, including a re-imagining of the patient pick-up and drop-off area. BPD devised a large pedestrian plaza space to better organize and channel pedestrian movement. Outdoor seating allows users to wait while enjoying the benefits nature provides. An undetectable layer of security was designed into the plaza without becoming a noticeable focal point. The improvements have made the entrance function much more efficiently and comfortably for all users.

TraVure Courtyard, Germantown, TN
TraVure is a mixed use development located in Germantown, TN. It provides office, retail and restaurant space within a walkable campus with outdoor gathering spaces to improve quality of life. During the planning process for the campus a courtyard space was established between a five-story office building and a three-story parking garage with a width of approximately 22 feet. BPD designed this courtyard to be an outdoor gathering node within this walkable, mixed use campus. BPD created a series of sketches and a 3D model to evaluated our ideas and develop an understanding of spatial relationships in the narrow courtyard.

BPD's design solution used a curvilinear walkway for through-traffic that transforms into large gathering spaces underneath the glass overhead structure. Using site furniture, these plaza spaces are subdivided into smaller "rooms." The underground stormwater storage and other necessary infrastructure limited the amount of in-ground planting space. BPD utilized trees and shrubs in the ground where possible, but primarily used raised planters to bring planting into the plaza areas. The plant palette is comprised of a variety of textures and colors to create visual interest year-round. Movable furniture allows for maximum flexibility in the space.
