Billings Index Inches Up in March

The AIA's Architecture Billings Index (ABI) was at 46.1 in March, up from 44.8 in February.

Billings at architecture firms remained at historically depressed levels in March, according to Kermit Baker, AIA Chief Economist. However, they have been steadily moving toward a recovery in recent months. Photo Courtesy of AIA.

Likewise, all firm specialization categories had better scores, but still reflect slow deterioration in billings. With continued declines in revenue, firms expect compensation levels at architecture firms to decline in the 3 to 5 percent range this year, depending on the position. This shows that the economic recovery will be a slow and sometimes painful process.
