Reps. Donna Edwards (D-Md.) has introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives H.R. 2617 to establish the Apollo Lunar Landing Sites National Historical Park on the Moon. The park would encompass the site of man's first moon walk, Neil Armstrong, then Buzz Alrdin Jr. at Mare Tranquillitatis during the Apollo 11 mission, and the other moon walk sites from the Apollo 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17 missions. Twelve astronauts walked on the moon.

The bill notes: ""?(R)?establishing the Historical Park under this Act will expand and enhance the protection and preservation of the Apollo lunar landing sites and provide for greater recognition and public understanding of this singular achievement in American history."

If the bill passes, the park would be established with a year. The Department of the Interior and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration would be in charge of the park "?(R)? sorry, National Park Service.
