The NRPA applauds Biden's commitment to environmental justice and establishing an Office of Environmental Justice.

On April 21, 2023, President Biden issued the Executive Order on Revitalizing Our Nation's Commitment to Environmental Justice for All, which aims to prioritize environmental justice and address the impact of pollution on low-income communities. The executive order establishes an Office of Environmental Justice within the White House to coordinate efforts across federal agencies and directs federal agencies to develop and implement strategies to address environmental justice issues. The order also emphasizes the importance of community engagement and the need for data-driven decision-making to address environmental justice concerns.

The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has praised the Biden administration's executive order, as president and CEO of NRPA, Kristine Stratton, stated that park and recreation professionals are key to climate change solutions and building community resilience.

Stratton explained, "We must ensure all people benefit from spaces that are not only resilient and regenerative, but also transformative at the community level."

She also emphasized the need for efforts to focus on redlined communities that are most affected by poor environmental conditions and the effects of climate change. The NRPA highlighted park and recreation professionals' role as key to climate change solutions and community resilience efforts, particularly in redlined communities most impacted by poor environmental conditions and climate change effects.
