Beijing Invites Designs for the 2008 Olympic Park and Grounds07-24-03 | News

The Beijing Municipal Planning Commission has invited architects worldwide to submit designs for the Olympic Forest Park and the central zone of the 2008 Olympic grounds. The Olympic Forest Park is a 680-hectare green belt intended for rest and recreation. The central zone will include 291 hectares of sports facilities, convention centers, cultural amenities, commercial services, and the Olympic Village. (Note: a hectare is 2.471 acres.) Landscape designs are to reflect the theme ?EUR??,,????'??High-Tech Olympics, Green Olympics, and People?EUR??,,????'???s Olympics?EUR??,,????'?? into their designs. Eight independent designers or consortiums will be chosen to participate in the Olympic design. The Forest Park and central zone design proposals will be assessed separately. Applications for prequalification can be downloaded at bjghw.gov.cn July 22 through August 1, 2003. More information is also available at Beijing-olympic.org.cn.
