Beautification Awards for Southern California LCs SAN FERNANDO, Calif ?EUR??,,????'??+ The San Fernando Valley Chapter of the California Landscape Contractor's Association's (CLCA) 44th Annual Beautification Awards was held on Friday, June 13, 2003 at the Knollwood Country Club. Thirteen contractors were recognized for their excellence in craftsmanship, installation and landscape management. This year there were 62 projects entered into the Beautification Awards competition. The projects were judged by three industry experts who are not members of the local chapter. One of the judges was a prior chapter president of the local chapter and is no longer involved in the chapter. One judge was a past president of another chapter, and the third judge was a local horticulturist. All of the winners incorporated the latest in landscaping techniques. Every year the chapter finds that the designs get brighter and more creative. Examples of the awards are the "Colorscape Award" for the best use of color (flowers) in the overall landscape, the "Hardscape Award" for creative, or the best us of, and/or installation of construction materials (i.e. concrete, masonry, wood, etc.), the "Special Effects Award" for the best use of unique methods or materials and/or special artistic effects, and the "Rockscape Award" for the best use of rocks, boulders, etc. The competition is limited to members of the SFV chapter. The entries are submitted the beginning of May each year, with judging over a three-day-period in the middle of May, and the awards being present in June. Winning a Beautification Award is a prestigious accolade that shows how a landscape contractor stacks up against his/her peers.
