The bamboo culm is an excellent conduit for water transportation. The pipe-like structure of bamboo makes the culms suited for continuous water transport over longer distances, if the nodal septa are removed. The bamboo culms are then connected to each other and sometimes sealed at the joints, resulting in a pipe of considerable length that may be propped up on bamboo posts. Bamboo pipes like these are also frequently used to supply villages in Southeast Asia with drinking water. Source: WWW Virtual Library.
