A truck plowed into a landscaping trailer in Surprise, Arizona in early October leaving one landscape worker in serious condition and another injured, police said.
A Surprise police spokesman, Sgt. Mark Ortega, said the truck?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s driver, Derek Wieland, failed to notice a landscaping truck and trailer parked near 151st Avenue and Cactus Road. No one was inside the landscaping vehicles, but two workers trimming trees were standing next to them.
Both workers, identified as Jesus Feregrino and Miguel Hernandez, were hurt as a result of the crash, Ortega said. Feregrino, 64, was flown to a hospital with serious leg injuries, while Hernandez, 41, and the truck driver were transported by ambulance.
It was unclear who was at fault, Ortega said, but investigators were checking on whether safety cones had been put in place before the incident. It is important for landscapers to use safety cones or signs to give drivers a warning that they are approaching a work zone.
