For a number of years, Oro Valley?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s water utility in Arizona, was using more than their share of water to irrigate its golf courses, according to the Arizona Department of Water Resources. However, since the area began using reclaimed water, their water usage has been cut drastically.
Unfortunately, that doesn?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????t change the fact that each year from 2000 to 2005, they withdrew more groundwater from their source aquifer than they were allotted. Oro Valley was informed of their infractions in December and could be fined for those ?EUR??,,????'?????<?????????????????excess debits,?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????????? according to Jeff Tannler, area director for the Tucson Active Management Area of the Arizona Department of Water Resources.
Oro Valley?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s consumption beyond its allotment ended in 2006 because their publicly supplied golf courses were converted from groundwater to reclaimed water irrigation, according to Philip Saletta, Oro Valley water utility director.
?EUR??,,????'?????<?????????????????That significantly decreased our groundwater consumption,?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????????? said Saletta, adding that two more golf courses were placed on reclaimed water during 2008. ?EUR??,,????'?????<?????????????????We expect to remain in compliance going forward because of the continued use of reclaimed water for golf course irrigation.?EUR??,,????'?????<?????????????????
A Fourth Management Plan, with further increased regulatory requirements, is due to take effect in 2010. ?EUR??,,????'?????<?????????????????Our continued use of reclaimed water,?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????????? and Oro Valley?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s future plans to treat and deliver renewable Central Arizona Project water resources, ?EUR??,,????'?????<?????????????????will work in our favor as it relates to compliance with tougher standards,?EUR??,,????'?????<?????????????????
