Awards Spotlight Erosion Control Innovations

APPLETON, Wisc. - The Industrial Fabric Association International recently awarded International Achievement Awards to two U.S. projects utilizing Presto Products' Geoweb® cellular confinement system.

The awards, presented at the 2000 IFAI exposition, recognize the latest advancements in industrial technical fabric design and manufacture in 24 categories.

Colorado Lining International and Presto Products Company won the Award for Excellence in the geosynthetics project category for the Mud Lake Dam project. A cost-effective geosythetic solution incorporating multiple components (including a polypropylene geomembrane and Geoweb® slope protection system) was designed by Stone & Webster to protect the face of this rock-filled earthen dam built 100 years ago.

The City of Austin's Watershed Department and Presto won the Outstanding Achievement Award in the geosynthetic projects category for work performed at the West Bouldin Creek in Austin, Texas. The concentrated flows and erosive forces had severely undercut the outside bank of the creek to the point where it would soon impact the adjacent roadway. A composite wall design integrating the Geoweb® earth retention system and geogrid reinforcement was chosen to provide additional structural integrity and protection of the embankment from future erosion.
