Avoiding Summer Lawn Diseases

CHARLOTTE - Terra Systems has launched a new lawn disease prevention service in response to an unsightly fungus that infected many lawns in the area of the Charlotte-based company.

The fungus, commonly known as brown patch disease, can seriously damage fescue lawns in a warm, humid climate. Terra performed trials last year with a prevention product called Heritage. Heritage actually derives from mushrooms.

In addition to the disease prevention products, Terra Systems offers these tips for avoiding infestation of the brown patch disease:

• Avoid nitrogen-based fertilizers after April.

• Water in the morning , rather than at night, because water left standing overnight encourages brown patch growth

• Water no more than two or three times per week, because fewer heavy applications are better than frequent light applications.
