Awards: Since we are hosting the National Conference this year we have not yet had our Awards for 2021, however, in 2020 we honored Michael Fowler, ASLA with the Olmsted Award. The Olmsted Award was established in 2015 in Tennessee in honor of the founding father of Landscape Architecture, Frederick Law Olmsted, and to promote the ideals he established to ensure the health and enjoyment of the environment by all mankind. Eligible Recipients include Firms, Landscape Architects, Allied Professionals, Clients, Organizations, Elected Officials and other individuals who have made a significant contribution to the Landscape Architecture profession.
Initiatives: A portion of members ASLA dues goes directly to our state chapter, which we then use to fund our Advocacy efforts and also allows us to hire Legislative Counsel, Nathan Ridley, who since 2009, has been advocating for our profession by regularly attending bimonthly meetings of the Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners which is the regulator of the Landscape Architecture profession. He also registers to lobby on behalf of the Chapter before the Tennessee General Assembly each year and makes regular reports during the legislative session to the Chapter's Executive Committee. Nathan practices law in the Nashville office of the firm Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, LLP. This is one way that we are Advocating for our profession year-round.

Scholarship Programs: Every year we award two scholarships to students in the University of Tennessee, Knoxville MLA Program. This year we awarded first place and $1000 to Taylor Harrell and second place and $500 to Sydney Bittinger.
Events: It is our pleasure and honor this year to host the ASLA National Conference in Nashville in November. Alisha Eley and Larry Mizell spearheaded the Conference Planning as our Co-Chairs and were responsible for forming subcommittees responsible for specific Conference events. Owen Harris and Chris Jansen chaired the Host Chapter Booth Committee, Sarah Newton and Lindsey Bradley chaired the Women in Landscape Architecture Walk, Michelle Ye and Nathan Oliver chaired the Public Relations Committee, Michael Pavin and Tipton Fowlkes chaired the Field Sessions Committee and finally, Daniel Boutt???(C) and Tylor Fischer chaired the ACE Legacy Mentor Project.
This year the ACE Project is a joint effort between Shelby Bottoms Nature Center and students at John Overton High School in Nashville who were asked to design a rain garden as
part of a yearlong project.
