2019 Chapter Report

The distinguished Frederick Law Olmsted Award was given by the chapter to Memphis-based attorney, Charles F. Newman of Burch, Porter, Johnson LLC at their state awards dinner and conference April 25. Newman was honored for his leadership in conservation and his role in providing access to and protection for the most prominent and beloved public landscapes in Memphis-Shelby County.

There was a great turnout in February for the film screening of The Life and Gardens of Beatrix Farrand at the Dixon Gallery & Gardens. Brandon Doss promoted this event to the West TNASLA Section and Dale Skaggs invited members to attend.

The East TNASLA Section partnered with Chattanooga for a tour of Del Conca in February.

Belgard sponsored a Day at the Track of April 12 at Keenland Racetrack in Lexington Ky.

The chapter met in Memphis on April 25 & 26 for their annual state conference and awards ceremony. Professional and Student Design Awards were judged by the Louisiana Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. For a list of all the winners: https://www.tnasla.org/news

Profile: We represent over 150 practicing and affiliated members located throughout Tennessee. Through the activities and advocacy of three state sections, TNASLA works to educate the public on the benefits that the Landscape Architecture profession provides.

Advocacy tours were held August 9 for East TNSLA, August 15 for Middle TNSLA and a separate one that same day for West TNSLA. At each, members gathered for a highlight of Tennessee landscapes. Other events, such as various Lunch and Learns were presented throughout the year. The 2019 TNALSA Conference took place at the Halloran Centre at the Orpheum in Memphis on April 25 and 26. The nominations for the chapter's 2019-2020 Executive Committee closed on July 16th. All positions were open except for the president, past president, trustee, and A&E board representative. The slate of nominees was prepared and sent to the chapter for a 30-day election from August 1 - 30. The new officers took their positions on November 20, 2019.
