The American Society of Landscape Architects announced survey results of more than 4,000 landscape architecture firms regarding residential and hospitality design and product selection. Of the surveyed firms, 81 percent do residential design; 63 percent design both residential and hospitality projects. Nearly 10 percent of firms surveyed responded. The survey indicates that most landscape architects today select the furnishings for their projects, good news for outdoor furniture, appliance and accessory companies. Survey Numbers"?uResidential Design Projects The average firm designs 6-20 residential projects a year; 24 percent design more than 21 projects a year; and 14 percent design more than 30 projects a year. The typical residential landscape project budget is $250,000-$500,000; for 10 percent of firms it is $500,000 to more than $1 million. 98 percent of firms specify or purchase outdoor furniture, appliances and accessories: 49 percent through a manufacturer's representative; 36 percent on line; 30 percent through a local retailer; and 20 percent at a company showroom. 97 percent include water features (ponds, pools, fountains). 96 percent include a fireplace, firepit or other fire feature. 91 percent include outdoor kitchens. 68 percent include heating or cooling features. Sixty-four percent of the surveyed firms provide hospitality design services. 77 percent of the firms design 1-5 projects a year; 20 percent design between 6-20 projects a year. 94 percent of the firms specify or purchase outdoor furniture, appliances and accessories: 46 percent through a manufacturer's representative; 26 percent on line; 18 percent through a local retailer; and 12 percent at a company showroom. The typical hospitality landscape project budget is $250,000 to $1 million; for 21 percent of firms it's more than $1 million; and for 8 percent of firms it's more than $3 million. 97 percent include water features (ponds, pools, fountains). 86 percent include a fireplace, firepit or other fire feature. 60 percent include outdoor kitchens. 60 percent include heating or cooling features.
