2019 Chapter Report

For the chapter's 2019 Recognition Awards, the Outstanding Firm Award was given to MIG's Portland office landscape architecture team made up of Lauren Schmitt, Melissa Erikson, Laurie Matthews, Christina Frank, Rachel Edmonds and Casey Howard, with adjunct staff Robert Melnick and Dean Apostal.

Paula Barreto, ASLA received the Outstanding Emerging Professional Award, given to an individual in their first five years of practice that exceeds expectations and shows promise in making contributions to landscape architecture.

And Melinda Graham, ASLA, a founding principal of 2.ink Studio Landscape Architecture, was bestowed the 2019 Lord & Schryver Award, established to honor a woman, a firm or an organization that had made significant contributions to the achievement and recognition of women in landscape architecture.

Kurt Culbertson, who gave lectures on surfacing natural systems in Portland and Eugene enjoys a meal with attendees.

The 2019 Oregon Design Awards Annual Soiree had the largest number or attendees to date.

Profile: With over 300 members statewide, we provide professional education programs and raise overall awareness for the landscape architecture profession through public relations and government affairs efforts.

The ASLA Oregon Chapter had a very busy fall!

Chapter members joined the National Park Service's Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program staff in a Design Charrette to create a conceptual plan for the Barnes Butte Recreation Area, a 460-acre park and open-space project in Prineville, Oregon.

Kurt Culbertson, FASLA presented a two-city, two-night lecture titled Surfacing Natural Systems: Toward an Ecology of the City, which was sponsored by Victor Stanley.

The ASLA Oregon Design Awards Annual Soiree was held on Friday, November 1 at the Melody Ballroom in Portland where this year's Recognition Awards were also handed out.

And the chapter sponsored OMSI Science Pub Portland: Rivers and Hydrology, an evening of fun, food, drinks and a casual lecture on November 19.
