The Boy Scouts of America will be celebrating 100 years of scouting in America beginning Feb. 8, 2010. Next year's Boy Scout Jamboree will be held at Ft. AP Hill in Virginia. It will attract about 35,000 boy scouts from all over the world for a 10-day extravaganza of scouting activities. Additionally, there will be some 7,000 staff to make it all tick and some 10,000 visitors (moms, dads and siblings) each day.
The Boy Scouts have a long held philosophy of honoring the environment ... coincidentally, there is a Landscape Architecture merit badge, and I will, again (LASN did a short item on the 2005 jamboree), be heading up the effort to field a team to work with the scouts on the Landscape Architecture merit badge requirements on the "Merit Badge Midway" at the jamboree. In 2005, I worked with about 160 scouts to meet most of their requirements toward the merit badge
I am looking to get additional support from LA scouters who would be willing to volunteer a day or two of their time to assist.
