The Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects held its annual design awards jury May 31 and June 1 in Orlando. The chapter received 63 award submittals from Florida registered professionals and students for projects across the state and around the world. Award of Honor (open space) for Pompano Beach Streetscape and Dune Enhancement.

Award of Merit (open space) for Smother's Park in Owensboro, Kentucky.

Award of Merit (residential) for Mar Menor in Murcia, Spain.

Among the four awards for AECOM Technical Services, Inc. was the Environmental Sustainability Honor for Orlando Health Lake Beauty Park, Donald Wishart, landscape architect (Orlando office). The landscape contractor was LegacyScapes. The natural lake was overgrown with unsightly nonnative plants and damaged by contaminated soils. The site is now clean, and has rain gardens with native plants to capture runoff before it enters the lake. Mature native trees were preserved, with a new native canopy growing. The lake edge was reshaped to create usable walking and seating areas without compromising the lake volume or natural habitat.

AECOM Technical Services, Inc. was also a four-time winner: three for the Orlando group, and one for the Raleigh, North Carolina group:

Award of Merit (institutional), along with Saenz Bury Engineering, Austin, for Unity Plaza, San Antonio.

The Frederic Stresau Award went to David Sacks Landscape Architecture in association w/ Studio Outside for the Bok Tower Gardens Master Plan, Lake Wales, Fla. The award honors Frederic Barnes Stresau's (1912-1989) 40 years of practice that were instrumental in growing the field of landscape architecture in Florida.
