ASLA Elects New President-elect Designate Lawrence, KS The ASLA committee of Tellers convened on Saturday morning, June 3, to select the next president of the ASLA. The committee elected Rodney L. Swink as the Society's new president-elect designate. Mr. Swink will assume the office of president-elect at the conclusion of the annual meeting in St. Louis this October. Mr. Swink's background is in community development and urban design. As a grad student he worked for the North Carolina agency of urban forestry. This experience gave him broad exposure to issues of public planting and working with communities that led to his current work with the Division of Community Assistance in Raleigh, North Carolina. His goals for the upcoming year are to promote the Society's livability agenda, which includes community building, land reuse and redevelopment. He cautions, however, that he does not want to be too narrow in his focus. He would like to be an advocate for growth of the entire profession.
