ASLA released the following statement to their members on July 13:

For over 20 years, I've attended the ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture. It has always been a highlight of my year and my professional life. As President, I was looking forward to holding a great conference this year - to give all of you, conference veterans and newbies alike, a powerful experience like the ones I've had in all my years of attendance.

So, it's with a heavy heart that I write to you today that due to the health and safety concerns regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, ASLA is unfortunately compelled to cancel the 2020 Conference on Landscape Architecture in Miami Beach.

 

The health and safety of our attendees, vendors, exhibitors, our ASLA team, and the thousands of people involved in an in-person conference, must be our first priority. After considering feedback from all the stakeholders, including many of you, this was the only prudent and responsible decision to make. If you've already registered for this year's conference, you will receive an email later this week with more details about refunds. You can also find answers to some common logistical questions at www.aslaconference.com. 
I know this is disappointing news. But in reflecting on my past experiences, I'm reminded that our conference is not about location. It's about connection.
It's about connecting with longtime professional friends or new mentors; former teachers or new business contacts. It's about building personal bonds with peers, students, ASLA colleagues, innovators in the field - in short, it's about connecting to each other as part of our special family of landscape architects.

But just because we can't physically be together doesn't mean we can't do all of that.

We now have a unique opportunity to rethink how we connect to one another, to the Society, and to our profession as a whole. Our ASLA team is hard at work putting together a powerful virtual program for the fall that will keep everyone safe, increase access for those who couldn't or wouldn't travel this year, and help accomplish the goal we'd set out to achieve to begin with: rekindling the spirit of the profession for the year ahead.
