This fall, the Chapter participated in Park(ing) Day 2020. The Birmingham Chapter's installation was along the 2nd and 3rd Avenue block of 20th Street North, in the downtown core. This year's design is a permanent installation which includes reclaimed pedestrian space, multi-modal street design, flexible use seating and all new landscaping. The use of temporary paint created a bike lane and a flex loading zone in the streetscape. Former parking spaces were brought up to grade to create an expanded patio space complete with new planters and furnishings for patrons. This year's installation was made possible by the Alabama Chapter of ASLA partnering with REV Birmingham and the City of Birmingham. The intent is for the installation to serve as a test site for what can be done along the rest of 20th Street North to help the street function as an asset to local businesses and those working, living and dining downtown.
