ASIC Members Honored Tobey, Shoemaker and Blevens recognized Byron, CA The American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC) selected Sam Tobey to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, which is given to an individual whose long-term support of the Society's principles and whose efforts to promote the goals of the Society are deserving of special recognition by his or her peers. Tobey is president of Salco Products, Inc., one of the oldest companies in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to manufacturing drip irrigation products. Ed Shoemaker was honored with the society's Roy Williams Memorial Award, which is given in recognition of significant contributions to the irrigation industry. He started in the industry selling irrigation in the Midwest for Olin Matheson, then joined L.R. Nelson Mfg. Co (Rainy Sprinkler Sales) in Peoria, Illinois in 1957 to sell Rain Bird sprinklers in the Eastern US. Currently he is retired but continues to work part-time as a consultant for Rain Bird. Last but not least, John Blevens an Irrigation Consultant based in San Carlos, CA was elevated to the status of Fellow Member of the ASIC. Blevens is a long-time member of the ASIC and is active at both the chapter and national levels. He has served in most offices and committees in the Northern California Chapter and has been equally active at the national level, serving as National President for two terms in 1988 - 1990.
