The American Society of Consulting Arborists has announced a new On-Demand Course, Soil Rehabilitation Techniques and Payback Potential, by Dr. Susan Day, of Virginia Tech.

Through this on-demand course, attendees will expand their knowledge of soil rehabilitation techniques and payback potential. Using examples from Dr. Day's research, attendees will learn facts to consider when replacing soil and techniques for characterizing undisturbed soil, including applying compost and subsoiling techniques. Root growth hypothesis and its typical practice, including a review of recent data results, will complete the attendees' understanding of the payback of soil rehabilitation and protection.

Dr. Day will cover:

  • What are the issues for trees and people?
  • What do we lose when soil is degraded?
  • Protection is ideal, but what are our other options?
  • Soil replacement (just a brief note!)
  • Deep soil rehabilitation
  • What is the payback in terms of soil function and quality?
  • What is the payback in tree growth?
  • Soil Profile Rebuilding (a spec you can use--it goes deep!)
ASCA and ISA have approved this course for one CEU.
