The herbicide 2,4-D has been banned in 10 Arkansas counties because of its negative affects.

The Arkansas State Plant Board pesticide committee approved a ban on the use of the herbicide 2,4-D in 10 east Arkansas counties. If approved after a public hearing, the herbicide would be banned between April 15 and Sept. 15.

The proposed ban on most uses for the popular herbicide may not have a devastating effect locally, according to Extension Agent Mitch Crow.

?EUR??,,????'??They?EUR??,,????'???ve been using more expensive herbicides,?EUR??,,????'?? he said, while adding that 2,4-D is widely used in many Arkansas counties.

?EUR??,,????'??It?EUR??,,????'???s a broadleaf weed herbicide, and one of the cheapest herbicides,?EUR??,,????'?? Crow said.

The committee?EUR??,,????'???s proposal reworks an earlier recommendation to ban aerial applications of 2,4-D statewide. The Plant Board rejected that proposal in December.
